In 2021, what started as a personal passion project turned into a business that now serves tiny home enthusiasts across the country.
As avid travelers, we stayed in countless short-term rentals and tiny spaces—but time and time again, we noticed they lacked the comforts and practicality needed for real living. From cramped bathrooms and barely-there kitchens to tiny lofts that felt more like coffins than cozy retreats, we knew there had to be a better way.
So, we built our own.
We started with three custom-designed tiny homes right in our backyard in Austin. Each one had a unique style: one natural modern, one wanderlust boho, and one striking black-and-white modern. We added skylights so guests could fall asleep under the stars, large windows to bring the outdoors in, and real-home amenities like functional kitchens, full-sized bathrooms, and spacious-feeling lofts.
We listed them on Airbnb and held our breath. Our very first guest was a traveling nurse—we were so nervous, we barely slept that night, checking our phones constantly. But she loved it. So much so that she stayed with us three more times that year.
Just as things were picking up, the city changed our zoning laws. We were devastated. We had a strict deadline to remove the tiny homes, and no clear plan for what came next. With little money, a lot of stress, and a ticking clock, we moved the homes to a storage lot and listed them for sale.
That’s when the spark hit.
The interest was overwhelming. People loved the designs, the layouts, the comfort—and we realized this could be something more. Meagan had the idea: why not turn this into a business? If so many people wanted these homes, we could build more.
So, we got to work. Andres researched the legal and zoning requirements, met with the city, and reconnected with our original builder. Meagan dove into design—refining what people loved most about the first three homes while keeping affordability in mind. She also began building the framework for our new business: structure, mission, branding, and process.
In our first year, we sold 6 homes—one every other month. And that’s when we knew: this wasn’t just a fluke. This was the beginning of something real.
At the time, Meagan was still working full-time as a teacher. For the first three years, she balanced teaching by day and growing a business by night. But when our sales doubled and the business was thriving, she took the leap, leaving her 9-5 to pursue Tiny Homes ATX full time.
Since then, we’ve been doubling our sales each year and delivering homes to happy customers from Maine to California.
What makes us different? We’re with you every step of the way—from your first inquiry to the day your tiny home is delivered. We’re passionate about creating affordable, high-quality homes that actually feel like home. We believe a tiny home shouldn’t cost as much as a condo, and we’ve built our business to offer better options for real people.
